After running the game I came across an error saying that D3DX9_32.DLL was missing. I followed all the instructions including installing the patches for the game, 1.61 and 1.74. I then ran the basic compatibility test and ended up putting it into Windows XP mode no effect and the game wouldn't work. This is what I did:įirst I inserted my CIV 4 CD-ROM into the drive (portable as my laptop has no drive) and ran the installer which also installed DirectX for me. My first attempt was to use Windows 10 as the compatibility features tend to get everything up and running just fine. Originally, I intended to install Civilisation 4 by Sid Meier for my sister as it did not look to difficult.
